Figures released from the CSO today show that the number of people signing on in Clondalkin and Lucan has risen by 10% since September 2011. In September 2012 there were 9,157 people signing on. The figure for September 2011 was 9,197. However 1,062 people were transferred from Clondalkin to the Tallaght live register in October 2011, so when these are taken into account the number of people living in Clondalkin and Lucan signing on rises to 10,219, indicating a 10% increase between September 2011 and September 2012.

Sinn Féin Dublin Mid-West representative Eoin ÓBroin has accused the Government of ‘ignoring the growing unemployment crisis in Clondalkin and Lucan.’

A Sinn Féin survey of unemployment levels in the Clondalkin local electoral area has revealed a shocking 40% of people are out of work. The survey, conducted in July, surveyed 400 houses in all parts of the Clondalkin ward.  Unemployment was highest in North Clondalkin at 52%, followed by Bawnogue at 44%. Significantly Clondalkin Village, St Johns and Cherrywood combined had an unemployment rate of 38%. The full details of the survey are attached to this e-mail.

Commenting on July’s CSO live register figures released last Friday Sinn Féin Dublin Mid-West representative Eoin Ó Broin has said; “The number of people signing on in Clondalkin and Lucan has increased by 6% since Fine Gael and Labour took office” The latest figures show 9,472 people signing on in the Clondalkin Social Welfare Office at the end of July.

Figures released from the CSO last week show that unemployment in Dublin Mid-West is higher now than it was when Fine Gael and Labour took office 12 months ago. At the end of March there were 9,094 people on the live register in Clondalkin and Lucan. When adjusted to take account of the transfer of 1,062 claimants from Clondalkin to Tallaght social welfare office in September 2011 the total number of people signing on from Clondalkin and Lucan exceeds 10,000 for the second month in a row.

 Figures released from the CSO today show that unemployment in Dublin Mid-West is at a 17 month high. At the end of February there were 9,073 people on the live register. When adjusted to take account of the transfer of 1,062 claimants from Clondalkin to Tallaght social welfare office in September 2011 the total number of people signing on from Clondalkin and Lucan exceeds 10,000. Sinn Féin Dublin Mid-West representative Eoin Ó Broin has described the news as “deeply troubling” and called for “concerted action by Government to reverse this trend.”

Today Dublin Mid West Sinn Féin started a weekly protest calling for an end to austerity and for investment in jobs, services and economic recovery. The protest will take place every Saturday from 1.30 to 2.30 outside the Clondalkin Civic Offices in Clondalkin Village.

Speaking following the release of the CSO monthly live register figures today Sinn Féin Dublin Mid West representative Eoin Ó Broin has said that ‘there has been no fall in unemployment in Clondalkin and Lucan this month despite a marginal decrease country wide.’
