Support the GAME Workers Sit In at Liffey Valley

Sinn Féin Dublin Mid-West representative Eoin Ó Broin has called for on local people to “show their support for the GAME store workers in Liffey Valley” who began a sit-in last night to secure their statutory entitlements following redundancy notifications earlier this week. Ó Broin visited the Liffey Valley workers last night.

Ó Broin said

“Once again a major employer is flouting Irish employment law. This week staff at GAME stores across Ireland were made redundant. The employer did not provide for adequate notice, has not offered statutory redundancy and has not yet paid a months back pay.

“Just like La Senza, the employer has left the staff with no option but to sit-in until their statutory rights are adhered to.

“I am calling on local people across Lucan, Palmerstown and Clondalkin to show their support for the workers at GAME in Liffey Valley. Pop in and say hello when you are in Liffey Valley shopping centre, express your solidarity and let the workers know that they have the support of the entire community.

“Just like the La Senza sit-in, local support will be vital in helping the workers get what the rightly deserve.

“I am also calling on the Government to publicaly intervene to state that what is happening here is totally wrong and to send a clear signal to GAME and other employers that such breaches of Irish employment law will not be tolerated.” ENDS
